Q. How isolated is Chickadee Farm?
A. We're on 11 peaceful acres of meadows, woods and stone walls on a country dirt road, but we are less than a mile from Hancock village, with the Cash Market, Fiddleheads Cafe, and the Hancock Inn.
Q. Do you really raise chickadees?
A. We have a barn and a fenced-in pasture and are equipped to grow vegetables and raise horses, chickens, pigs and goats. For now, though, our animals consist of our two dogs, Burt and Muffin, and our cat, Trix. We also hang our feeders and enjoy the flocks of songbirds that come into our yard, most especially the chickadees.
Q. How is the Writers Studio different from other writing workshops?
A. We are veteran teachers and well-published, successful writers. Bill has published more than two dozen novels and numerous short stories and articles about writing in national publications. Vicki has two published novels, a short story, and hundreds of articles and film reviews. They both struggled and worked hard for their success. Now they're popular and successful writers-who are also passionate about teaching. This is a unique combination.
Q. I might like to spend a few extra days in the area. What else is there to do?
A. Lots. Check out the Monadnock Region section. If you like swimming, kayaking or fishing, there are dozens of ponds and lakes close by. We have art galleries and auctions; a movie theater, a spectacular bookstore, and charming shops; trails to hike and mountains to climb and horseback riding; fine dining for every taste; Keene, which offers some of the best jazz in the region; and the most beautiful autumn foliage in the world.
Q. I'm a complete beginner as a writer. Is this the place for me?
A. Absolutely. We love to work with beginners. Your enthusiasm and excitement for writing is infectious. We will get you launched.
Q. I'm been writing for years and have taken lots of workshops. What do you have to offer me?
A. Both of us have worked with experienced writers, critiquing their work, giving them new perspectives, boosting their writing energies, and helping them get published. The Writers Studio will rejuvenate you.
